Photo Friday – Campeche, Mexico

Campeche is a quiet old walled colonial city on the Yucatan peninsula, famous for its Spanish forts and churches.

In 1997, it was declared a World Heritage site. Since then, the local government has been responsible for maintaining the brightly colored paint jobs on the old buildings in the walled city. Unlike many of the destinations in the neighboring Yucatan state, Campeche was the first place where we felt off the tourist grid and like we were experiencing the “real” Mexico.
