We left NYC Tuesday morning, after many stressful days packing up and moving our apartment, wrapping up home and work matters, and saying so long (for now!) to family, friends, and coworkers.
Luckily, we decided to ease into our trip by starting in Cancun, Mexico and spent time with some good friends in a beautiful beach front resort. While not proper “backpacking”, we enjoyed the opportunity to relax and unwind following the chaos of preparing for departure.
So far, our days have been spent lounging by the pool and beach, working on our tans, and hanging out around town. Spending this time with friends has in many ways made it feel more like a normal vacation, though this will likely now change as they departed yesterday morning. We are officially on our own!
Heather required some dental work (stay tuned for a future blog post), so we’ll be sticking around Cancun a bit longer. Hopefully we’ll have time to explore some of the surrounding area, such as the Mayan ruins of Tulum and Chichen Itza, before moving onto our next destination – Merida.
